2004 SRA-ERASG annual meeting notes Topics discussed: 1) Succession of SG Chairs The list of past chairs of the ERASG is: Barnthouse, Haselow, Alsop, Hope, Linkov. The current chair is Randy Ryti and Todd Bridges has agreed to be chair-elect 2) Update on activities for the past year a) We started a roughly quarterly series of conference calls to discuss the ERASG business. Participants in these calls constituted the "core group" of the ERASG. b) For the annual meeting ERASG had 4 platform sessions and several posters. ERASG also sponsored a short course on methods for arid ecological risk assessment. c) ERASG awarded the SG student travel award to Mary Kozlak, who was present at the ERASG meeting. 3) We discussed some of the problems associated with attracting more papers and people to attend short courses. 4) The remainder of the meeting was discussion of the possible ideas for 2005 annual meeting in Orlando FL a) We discussed possible session ideas include everglades research on methyl mercury or phosphates b) A focus on numerical modeling was also discussed and this could lead to more human-ecological risk collaborative sessions. c) Other suggestions included radioecology, values/economics, integrating human and ecological risk, coastal mangroves, corals, global warming. d) We also discussed the importance of getting new people involved. e) Chris Frey [incoming SRA President] was attending all SG meetings and encouraged us to think about topics relevant for the 25th anniversary like what have been the successes and what is next in our field] END
